“Of course you’re spoiled. You’re the baby!” 😏
Well, therapists say it might be time to retire that stereotype.
🍼 The “Family Baby” Myth
Youngest siblings are often described as:
😎 Carefree😂 The funny one🙃 The troublemaker👑 The family favorite🍭 And, of course... spoiled
But experts say plenty of youngest children don’t actually feel spoiled at all.
In some families, the youngest may have gotten more freedom because their parents relaxed some of the rules. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they were showered with everything they wanted.
Some youngest siblings say they actually feel:
😕 Underestimated
🙄 Dismissed
👶 Treated like the baby, even after becoming an adult
😂 Always Expected to Be “The Fun One”
And there’s another side to being the youngest.
Therapists say some youngest siblings feel pressure to live up to the role their family has given them.
They might feel like they always have to be:
🎉 The fun one
😌 The easygoing one
🕊️ The peacemaker
❤️ The person who keeps everybody happy
Even when they’re dealing with their own problems.
Some may even develop people-pleasing habits because they’ve spent years worrying about everyone else’s feelings.
🧠 Birth Order Isn’t Everything
So, if you’re the oldest, middle, or youngest sibling, don’t assume your birth order completely explains your personality.
Research suggests birth order is only one small piece of the puzzle and isn’t nearly as predictive of your adult personality as many people believe.
👀 So... Who REALLY Is the Spoiled One?
Maybe it’s not the youngest.
Maybe it’s whoever got the least amount of chores. 😂
Or the sibling who somehow still gets Mom to do their laundry at 27. 🧺🤣
