Starting a new job is already stressful enough. You’re learning new systems, meeting a million people, trying to remember everyone’s name… and then there’s the biggest question:

“Wait… do I actually like my boss?” 👀

Sometimes you can tell pretty quickly that your new boss is going to be a problem. 🚩

Here are 7 red flags that your new boss might be toxic:

🚩 1. They Bad-Mouth Former Employees

If your boss constantly talks trash about everyone who used to work there… pay attention. 👀

Because eventually, you might become the former employee they’re talking about.

👏 2. They Want Praise… But Give None

They LOVE hearing how great they are.

“Great job, boss!” 👏“You’re doing amazing!” 🙌“Wow, incredible leadership!” 😂

But when YOU do something well?

Crickets. 🦗🦗🦗

A good boss should be able to recognize the people doing the work—not just collect compliments for themselves.

📧 3. They Ignore Your Emails

You send an email.

Nothing.

You follow up.

Nothing.

You send another one three days later.

Still nothing. 😐

Meanwhile, they’ll message YOU at 4:57 PM asking why something isn’t done by 5:00.

Oh, NOW we’re communicating. 😂

🏆 4. They Only Celebrate Themselves

If every accomplishment somehow becomes their accomplishment, that’s another warning sign.

The team finishes a huge project:

Boss: “Look what I accomplished!” 😎

Everyone else: 🧍🧍🧍

A healthy workplace should have some recognition for the people actually making things happen.

🔄 5. They Constantly Change Priorities

Monday: “This is the most important thing.”

Tuesday: “Forget that. Do THIS.”

Wednesday: “Why isn’t the first thing finished?”

Thursday: “Actually, we’re going in a completely different direction.”

Friday: “Why is everyone behind?” 😭

Constantly changing priorities without considering how it affects the team can be a major source of stress.

😳 6. Everyone Acts DIFFERENT Around Them

This one’s a big clue.

Pay attention to how your coworkers behave when the boss walks into the room.

Does everyone suddenly get quiet? 😶

Does nobody want to say anything? 🤐

Does everyone look stressed out? 😬

If your coworkers seem like they’re trying to survive a hostage negotiation every time the boss shows up…

that’s probably worth noticing. 😂

⭐ 7. They Clearly Have Favorites

If certain employees consistently get better treatment, easier assignments, more flexibility, or special privileges…

🚩 RED FLAG. 🚩

Nobody expects every employee to be treated exactly the same in every situation, but when the favoritism is obvious, it can create a seriously frustrating workplace.

🤔 The Biggest Red Flag? How YOU Feel

At the end of the day, one of the biggest clues may simply be how your boss makes you feel.

If you’re constantly anxious…

😰 Afraid to speak up…

🤐 Walking on eggshells…

😩 Or already dreading work just a few weeks after starting…

…it might be a sign that something isn’t working.

Because you’re supposed to be starting a new job, not starring in The Office: Psychological Thriller Edition. 😂💼

So if your new boss is showing a few of these red flags, maybe it’s time to pay attention to what’s happening around you. 🚩👀
