HAPPY NATIONAL TACO DAY! ๐ฎ๐ And somehow, the calendar has blessed us with the perfect combination: National Taco Day AND Taco Tuesday. This is what dreams are made of. ๐
And here's the craziest statistic of the day:
Only 2% of Americans say they've NEVER eaten a taco.
TWO PERCENT.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! ๐ญ๐ฎ
We're not talking about some exotic food here. It's a taco! You can get one at a gas station, a drive-thru, a food truck, a fancy restaurantโฆ there are tacos EVERYWHERE.
Meanwhile, 90% of American adults say they like eating tacos, and about 83% say they eat Mexican food at least once a month. 17% eat it every single week. ๐ฎ๐ฅ
And apparently we're also pretty divided on how our tacos should be built.
๐ฎ 53% prefer soft shells
๐ฎ 47% prefer hard shells
So the soft-shell people have a slight edge, but this is America. The hard-shell people aren't going down without a fight. ๐
We're also apparently a nation of taco people rather than burrito people, because 71% say they prefer tacos over burritos.
And here's where it gets weirdly specific.
The average hard-taco fan eats about 7.3 tacos a month and is more likely to enjoy spicy food, be a dog person, and consider themselves an extrovert. ๐ถ๐ถ๏ธ๐
Soft-taco fans eat about 6.9 tacos a month and are more likely to be cat people, night owls, and in relationships. ๐ฑ๐โค๏ธ
So apparently your taco shell says A LOT about you. ๐
And if you really want to compete, move to Arizona.
10% of Arizona residents surveyed say they eat SIX OR MORE TACOS IN ONE MEAL. ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ
That's not dinner.
That's a cry for help. ๐
As for toppings, cheese absolutely dominates. 47 out of 50 states picked cheese as their favorite taco topping. ๐ง๐ฎ
And America's least favorite favorite topping?
Onions.
Only 3% picked onions as their #1.
And when people were asked what topping could actually RUIN a taco, cilantro came out on top, followed by black olives.
So basically, if you show up to my house with a taco covered in cilantro and black olivesโฆ
we're gonna have a conversation. ๐
And of course, restaurants are getting in on National Taco Day with plenty of deals and freebies. ๐ฎ๐ฐ
At Chuy's, you can get a free entrรฉe if you're willing to dress up like a taco and post a picture on social media. ๐ฎ๐ธ
Honestly, that's a pretty good trade.
And Taco Bell and Duolingo are teaming up for a limited-edition habanero sauce, with free packets available with Doritos Locos Tacos. ๐ฅ๐ฎ
So today, go get yourself some tacos.
Try a hard shell. Try a soft shell. Load it with cheese.
Just pleaseโฆ
don't be one of the 2%. ๐๐ฎ
