If you’re still living at home… yeah, you’re definitely not alone.
A new study shows that about 1 in 3 young adults (ages 18–34) are currently living with their parents—and that number has been going up in recent years 📈
📊 The numbers don’t lie
Right now, around 33% of young adults in the U.S. are living at home.
For comparison? Back in 1960, it was only about 22%.So yeah… big difference 😳
The numbers actually peaked during the pandemic when everything shut down and people moved back home fast—but even now, things haven’t dropped back down much.
💸 So… what’s the reason?
No surprise here—it mostly comes down to money.
Rent is high 🏢
Houses are expensive 🏡
Wages haven’t kept up 💰
So for a lot of people, staying at home just makes the most sense right now.
🗺️ Where it’s most common
Some states are seeing WAY higher numbers than others:
New Jersey – 44% 😳
Connecticut – 41%
California – 39%
🌾 Where it’s less common
Meanwhile, these states have the lowest percentages:
North Dakota – 12%
Wyoming – 16%
South Dakota – 18%
🤔 The reality
Living with your parents used to feel like a “failure” to some people… but now? It’s becoming way more normal.
Honestly, in this economy, it might even be the smart move 😅
So if you’re saving money, figuring things out, or just enjoying home-cooked meals a little longer—you’re in good company 👍
